Everything should be the same, only different.

There was a lot of art making by my boyfriend and me over the week long vacation for my brother’s wedding. That’s right, my boyfriend is an artist too, you can see his work on adamcrowther.com. First are some plein air paintings we did the morning before the wedding next to Lake Tahoe. Then some chalk art Adam drew on a hidden cement wall only visible from the house’s balcony. Last, three birds we painted on a wall in his dad’s house (they’re really Adam’s birds, I just added some paint in the lines). Enjoy!

Wedding Present

My brother Daniel got married a week and a half ago to a lovely lady in South Lake Tahoe. The entire weekend was beautiful. For their wedding present I fixed up this drawing of an evergreen tree with exposed roots and “D+M” carved into the trunk, which I initially drew for their save the date postcard several months ago. I built a custom frame and signed it per Mackenzie’s request. This forced me to come up with a signature, which ended up being this nifty continuous line that makes up my initials.

Space Traveler

Here is my Space Traveler drawn on duralar with graphite, flying the Vuia I past a spiral galaxy drawn on 7″ by 11″ scratchpaper. Trajan Vuia only flew 26 yards in his monoplane at Montesson, France in 1906, but now he is on an infinite journey into space.

Something Superbly Small: Pint Sized Art | one more week at Brea Gallery

If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend checking out Brea Gallery’s Something Superbly Small show. Because the art is pint sized, there is a lot of great work to see including drawings, paintings, mixed media works, sculptures, and tilt shit photograpy and videography. The show will be up til July 13. My picture made it in the Orange County Register’s article on the show, but as a patron rather than an artist, haha! You can also see the article on OCregister.com.

Mountain, 2012

These three pieces are 12″ by 12″ graphite and mixed media on panel. The figures are graphite on duralar on graph paper and the collaged elements include sewing patterns, graph paper, tea-stained notebook paper, a coffee filter, canvas, map, tracing paper, cardboard and a blind contour drawing from 2009. They will be in an upcoming show at First Street Gallery in Eureka, California.

Plein Air

Yesterday I went out on the trail toward Bridge to Nowhere with my mom and dad who read and fished while I tried out a painting en plein air with oil on panel. It’s a dyptic because I happened to have two 4″ by 16″ panels already gessoed, and they fit in my backpack quite nicely.

Something Superbly Small: Pint-Sized Art
Brea Art Gallery

1 Civic Center Circle
Brea, CA 92821

Opening reception featuring live music, food, drinks and great art. My miniature collages and my friend from Humboldt State Joey Hiller‘s silver gelatin prints are part of this group exhibition at the Brea Art Gallery. It will be showing June 2 – July 13, 2012.

“An exhibition of tiny porportions, this show is sure to fascinate the viewer with small works of art from invited artists. Encompassing all mediums including glass, paintings, ceramics, tilt shift photography, miniature sculptures, craft, and jewelry…this exhibition will finally answer the question of whether or not bigger is really better. Bring your magnifying class and see for yourself the amazing detail and work that goes into creating compact masterpieces!”
